ABOUT THE GNM

General Nursing Midwifery (GNM), is designed for students who want to pursue a career in clinical nursing and is aimed at preparing students for the clinical approach of handling patients. Nursing is the art of taking care of sick people and midwifery is a profession that provides assistance to a mother during labor as well as pregnancy.

The first year curriculum comprises of anatomy, physiology, nutrition, community health, psychology, microbiology, personal & environmental health, health education, sociology, fundamentals of nursing, first aid, health education & communication skills.

​

In the second year students study pharmacology, medical surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, orthopedic nursing, ophthalmic nursing, community health nursing, mental health, psychiatric nursing and communicable diseases.

​

The third year of the studies comprise of lessons on advanced community health nursing, pediatric nursing, midwifery and gynecology, introduction to research, administration and ward management, professional trends and adjustment and health economics.

​

Not only this, our experienced faculty trains the students in effective communication skills and soft skills also to make them future job ready.

PROGRAMME LEVEL & COURSE DURATION

Diploma with 3 Years Duration.

ELIGILIBILITY

The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31st December of the year in which admission is sought and the maximum age for admission shall be 35 years.

​

10+2 class passed preferably Science (PCB) & English with aggregate of 40% marks.

​

The candidates must have passed 10+2 with 40% marks from CHSE Odisha or equivalent thereof, However science is preferable. Or 10 +2 / 12th with 40% marks from state open schools recognized by state Govt. and National Institute of Open School recognized by Central Govt. Or 10+2 vocational ANM course with 40% marks from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council. Or 10 +2 Health Science vocational stream from a recognized Board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board with 40% marks. Or Registered ANM with 10+2 pass.

5% of total mark is relaxed for SC/ ST candidates.

​

ASHA having 10+2 pass with 40% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates) is eligible for applying to the GNM course.

​

The candidate Must have passed minimum M.E. standard Odia ( applicable candidates taking admission in central counseling only).

​

The candidate Must be a domicile / permanent resident / native of Odisha but currently residing outside Odisha. ( applicable to candidates taking admission in central counseling only).

​

Both female / male candidates can apply (only 10% reservation for male candidates out of total seats).

​

Student shall be medically fit for the course.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

  • To help students develop an ability to cooperate and coordinate with members of the health team in the prevention of disease, promotion of health and rehabilitation of the sick.

​

  • To prepare students who are able to keep pace with the latest professional and technological developments and use them for providing nursing care services.

​

  • To learn to conduct dialysis procedure.

​

Therefore, after successfully completing the course, the candidates are able to determine the nursing needs of patients of all ages and are prepared to provide appropriate care. They are able to apply knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavioral sciences in functioning as a nurse.

CAREER PROSPECTS

GNM diploma holders who have acquired the skills and education required in the field of care-taking and nursing can take up jobs at hospitals, clinics, health departments or can work as a private health care giver. They can also choose community services or work for NGO's that spread medical awareness or help the sick. Common job profiles that are always an option are staff nurse, home nurse, health visitor or as a community health worker.
